About the Saraswati Chalisa with Meaning

The Saraswati Chalisa praises the goddess of learning through the people she raised up: Valmiki, once a killer, who became the first poet; Kalidasa; Tulsidas and Surdas. It also hails her as the great Goddess who confused Madhu and Kaitabha, slew Chanda, Munda, Raktabija, Shumbha and Nishumbha, and turned Kaikeyi's mind so that Ram went to the forest and Ravana was destroyed. Its closing lines name the poet Ramsagar. Students read it before study and exams, and everyone on Vasant Panchami. Printed versions differ in a few lines; this text compares the common editions and keeps the readings that fit the rhyme and the stories.
