About the Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye
Narsinh Mehta, the 15th-century poet-saint of Junagadh, wrote this bhajan describing the true Vaishnava: one who feels another's pain, helps without pride, speaks no lie, covets nothing and has the name of Ram in the heart. It was Mahatma Gandhi's favourite and was sung daily at his prayer meetings; today it is sung in schools, at memorials and on Gandhi Jayanti.
