History
Pramukh Swami Maharaj began the vision for this campus in 1984, and BAPS bought the Robbinsville land in 2008. A smaller traditional shikharbaddh mandir of Carrara marble opened here on 10 August 2014, and work on the Akshardham Mahamandir began the following year.
Its stone came from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria and India and was carved in Pindwara, Rajasthan, before travelling about 12,500 miles to New Jersey. Mahant Swami Maharaj consecrated the Mahamandir on 8 October 2023, at the close of a nine-day festival. It stands about 191 feet high, with nine shikhars, four great domes and more than 10,000 carved statues and motifs.
