History

Hindus in central New Jersey founded the Hindu Temple and Cultural Society of USA in 1989 and bought land in Bridgewater in February 1992, worshipping in the building already on it while they planned. Ground was broken in 1995, and Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami performed the stone-laying in May 1996.

The 11,000-square-foot stone temple, built to the Vastu Shastras, was consecrated by Chinna Jeeyar Swami and other priests in 1998. An expansion approved in 2009, after a five-year zoning dispute, went ahead on a smaller scale.
