Shri Govardhan Maharaj, o Maharaj, Tere maathe mukut viraaj rahyo.
O Shri Govardhan Maharaj, a crown shines on your brow.
Tope paan chadhe tope phool chadhe, Tope chadhe doodh ki dhaar.
Betel leaves and flowers are offered to you, and streams of milk are poured over you.
Teri saat kos ki parikamma, Aur Chakleshwar vishraam.
Your parikrama is seven kos long, with its resting place at Chakleshwar.
Tere gale mein kantha saaj rahyo, Thodi pe heera laal.
A necklace adorns your neck, and a diamond and ruby sparkle on your chin.
Tere kaanan kundal chamak rahyo, Teri jhaanki bani vishaal.
Earrings glitter at your ears; your adorned form is grand to behold.
Giriraj dharan prabhu teri sharan, Karo bhakt ka beda paar. Shri Govardhan Maharaj.
O Lord who held up Giriraj, I take your refuge: carry your devotee's boat across.
About the Shri Govardhan Maharaj
On the day after Diwali, Braj and all of north India worship Govardhan, the hill Krishna lifted on his little finger to shelter the people of Braj from Indra's storms. A Govardhan of cow dung is made in the courtyard, decorated and circled, and a mountain of food (annakut) is offered. Pilgrims walk the seven-kos parikrama around Giriraj singing this aarti.
