About the Khatu Shyam Chalisa with Meaning
Khatu Shyam Ji is Barbarika, grandson of Bhima, who gave his head to Krishna before the Mahabharata war and was blessed to be worshipped in the Kali age by Krishna's own name, Shyam. This chalisa sees Shyam as Vishnu himself, runs through the names of Krishna and Ram, remembers those saved by the Name, Ajamila, Ahalya, Shabari and Sadan the butcher, and ends with the flute whose music drew everyone to Khatu. It is read on Ekadashi, above all at the Phalgun fair in Khatu, Sikar, and daily by Shyam's devotees. Printed versions vary in a few lines; this text follows the common reading, compared across editions.
