बन्दौं सन्तोषी चरण, रिद्धि-सिद्धि दातार। ध्यान धरत ही होत नर, दुःख सागर से पार॥ भक्तन को सन्तोष दे, सन्तोषी तव नाम। कृपा करहु जगदम्ब अब, आया तेरे धाम॥

Bandaun Santoshi charan, riddhi-siddhi daataar, Dhyaan dharat hi hot nar, duhkh saagar se paar. Bhaktan ko santosh de, Santoshi tav naam, Kripa karahu Jagdamb ab, aaya tere dhaam.

I bow to the feet of Santoshi, giver of prosperity and success; by meditating on her one crosses the ocean of sorrow. Your name is Santoshi because you give contentment to your devotees. Be gracious now, Jagdamba; I have come to your door.

जय सन्तोषी मात अनूपम। शान्ति दायिनी रूप मनोरम॥ सुन्दर वरण चतुर्भुज रूपा। वेश मनोहर ललित अनुपा॥

श्वेताम्बर रूप मनहारी। माँ तुम्हारी छवि जग से न्यारी॥ दिव्य स्वरूपा आयत लोचन। दर्शन से हो संकट मोचन॥

Shvetaambar roop manhaari, Maa tumhaari chhavi jag se nyaari. Divya svaroopa aayat lochan, Darshan se ho sankat mochan.

Your form in white garments steals the heart; Mother, your beauty is unlike anything in the world. Divine in form, with long eyes, your darshan frees us from trouble.

जय गणेश की सुता भवानी। रिद्धि-सिद्धि की पुत्री ज्ञानी॥ अगम अगोचर तुम्हरी माया। सब पर करो कृपा की छाया॥

Jai Ganesh ki suta Bhavaani, Riddhi-Siddhi ki putri gyaani. Agam agochar tumhri maaya, Sab par karo kripa ki chhaaya.

Victory to Bhavani, the wise daughter of Ganesha and of Riddhi and Siddhi. Your maya is beyond reach and beyond the senses; cast the shade of your grace over everyone.

नाम अनेक तुम्हारे माता। अखिल विश्व है तुमको ध्याता॥ तुमने रूप अनेकों धारे। को कहि सके चरित्र तुम्हारे॥

Naam anek tumhaare Maata, Akhil vishva hai tumko dhyaata. Tumne roop anekon dhaare, Ko kahi sake charitra tumhaare.

Mother, you have many names, and the whole universe meditates on you. You have taken many forms; who can tell all your deeds?

धाम अनेक कहाँ तक कहिये। सुमिरन तब करके सुख लहिये॥ विन्ध्याचल में विन्ध्यवासिनी। कोटेश्वर सरस्वती सुहासिनी॥

Dhaam anek kahaan tak kahiye, Sumiran tab karke sukh lahiye. Vindhyaachal mein Vindhyavaasini, Koteshvar Sarasvati suhaasini.

How can I count all your shrines? Remembering you brings happiness. At Vindhyachal you are Vindhyavasini; at Koteshwar, the smiling Saraswati.

कलकत्ते में तू ही काली। दुष्ट नाशिनी महाकराली॥ सम्बल पुर बहुचरा कहाती। भक्तजनों का दुःख मिटाती॥

Kalkatte mein tu hi Kaali, Dusht naashini mahaakaraali. Sambal pur Bahuchara kahaati, Bhaktjanon ka duhkh mitaati.

In Kolkata you are Kali, the terrible destroyer of the wicked; at Sambalpur you are called Bahuchara, who ends the sorrows of your devotees.

ज्वाला जी में ज्वाला देवी। पूजत नित्य भक्त जन सेवी॥ नगर बम्बई की महारानी। महा लक्ष्मी तुम कल्याणी॥

Jvaala Ji mein Jvaala Devi, Poojat nitya bhakt jan sevi. Nagar Bambai ki mahaaraani, Maha Lakshmi tum kalyaani.

At Jwala Ji you are Jwala Devi, worshipped every day by your devoted servants. You are the great queen of the city of Bombay, the auspicious Mahalakshmi.

मदुरा में मीनाक्षी तुम हो। सुख दुख सबकी साक्षी तुम हो॥ राजनगर में तुम जगदम्बे। बनी भद्रकाली तुम अम्बे॥

Madura mein Meenaakshi tum ho, Sukh dukh sabki saakshi tum ho. Raajnagar mein tum Jagdambe, Bani Bhadrakaali tum Ambe.

In Madurai you are Meenakshi, witness to everyone's joys and sorrows. In Rajnagar, Jagdamba, you became Bhadrakali, Mother.

पावागढ़ में दुर्गा माता। अखिल विश्व तेरा यश गाता॥ काशी पुराधीश्वरी माता। अन्नपूर्णा नाम सुहाता॥

Paavaagadh mein Durga Maata, Akhil vishva tera yash gaata. Kaashi puraadheeshvari Maata, Annapoorna naam suhaata.

At Pavagadh you are Mother Durga, and the whole world sings your glory. In Kashi you are the Mother who rules the city, with the lovely name Annapurna.

सर्वानन्द करो कल्याणी। तुम्हीं शारदा अमृत वाणी॥ तुम्हरी महिमा जल में थल में। दुःख दारिद्र सब मेटो पल में॥

Sarvaanand karo kalyaani, Tumhin Shaarada amrit vaani. Tumhri mahima jal mein thal mein, Duhkh daaridra sab meto pal mein.

Auspicious one, bring joy to all; you yourself are Sharada of nectar-sweet speech. Your glory fills water and land; wipe out all sorrow and poverty in a moment.

जेते ऋषि और मुनीशा। नारद देव और देवेशा॥ इस जगती के नर और नारी। ध्यान धरत हैं मात तुम्हारी॥

Jete rishi aur muneesha, Naarad dev aur devesha. Is jagati ke nar aur naari, Dhyaan dharat hain Maat tumhaari.

All the rishis and great sages, Narada, the gods and their lords, and the men and women of this world meditate on you, Mother.

जापर कृपा तुम्हारी होती। वह पाता भक्ति का मोती॥ दुःख दारिद्र संकट मिट जाता। ध्यान तुम्हारा जो जन ध्याता॥

Jaapar kripa tumhaari hoti, Vah paata bhakti ka moti. Duhkh daaridra sankat mit jaata, Dhyaan tumhaara jo jan dhyaata.

Whoever receives your grace gains the pearl of devotion. Sorrow, poverty and trouble vanish for the one who meditates on you.

जो जन तुम्हरी महिमा गावै। ध्यान तुम्हारा कर सुख पावै॥ जो मन राखे शुद्ध भावना। ताकी पूरण करो कामना॥

Jo jan tumhri mahima gaavai, Dhyaan tumhaara kar sukh paavai. Jo man raakhe shuddh bhaavna, Taaki pooran karo kaamna.

Whoever sings your glory and meditates on you finds happiness. Fulfil the wishes of all who keep a pure heart.

कुमति निवारि सुमति की दात्री। जयति जयति माता जगधात्री॥ शुक्रवार का दिवस सुहावन। जो व्रत करे तुम्हारा पावन॥

Kumati nivaari sumati ki daatri, Jayati jayati Maata jagdhaatri. Shukravaar ka divas suhaavan, Jo vrat kare tumhaara paavan.

You remove bad thinking and give good sense; victory, victory to the Mother who sustains the world. On lovely Friday, whoever keeps your holy fast...

गुड़ छोले का भोग लगावै। कथा तुम्हारी सुने सुनावै॥ विधिवत पूजा करे तुम्हारी। फिर प्रसाद पावे शुभकारी॥

Gud chhole ka bhog lagaavai, Katha tumhaari sune sunaavai. Vidhivat pooja kare tumhaari, Phir prasaad paave shubhkaari.

...offers you jaggery and chickpeas, hears and tells your story, worships you in the proper way and then takes the auspicious prasad...

शक्ति-सामरथ हो जो धनको। दान-दक्षिणा दे विप्रन को॥ वे जगती के नर औ नारी। मनवांछित फल पावें भारी॥

Shakti-saamarath ho jo dhanko, Daan-dakshina de vipran ko. Ve jagati ke nar au naari, Manvaanchhit phal paaven bhaari.

...and, if they have the means, gives gifts and dakshina to brahmins: such men and women of this world gain in full the fruits they wish for.

जो जन शरण तुम्हारी जावे। सो निश्चय भव से तर जावे॥ तुम्हरो ध्यान कुमारी ध्यावे। निश्चय मनवांछित वर पावै॥

Jo jan sharan tumhaari jaave, So nishchay bhav se tar jaave. Tumharo dhyaan kumaari dhyaave, Nishchay manvaanchhit var paavai.

Whoever comes to your refuge surely crosses the ocean of worldly life. A young woman who meditates on you surely finds the husband she wishes for.

सधवा पूजा करे तुम्हारी। अमर सुहागिन हो वह नारी॥ विधवा धर के ध्यान तुम्हारा। भवसागर से उतरे पारा॥

Sadhava pooja kare tumhaari, Amar suhaagin ho vah naari. Vidhava dhar ke dhyaan tumhaara, Bhavsaagar se utre paara.

A married woman who worships you stays blessed in her marriage for ever; a widow who meditates on you crosses the ocean of worldly life.

जयति जयति जय संकट हरणी। विघ्न विनाशन मंगल करनी॥ हम पर संकट है अति भारी। वेगि खबर लो मात हमारी॥

Jayati jayati jai sankat harni, Vighn vinaashan mangal karni. Ham par sankat hai ati bhaari, Vegi khabar lo Maat hamaari.

Victory, victory to you, remover of trouble, destroyer of obstacles, bringer of blessings. A heavy trouble lies upon us; Mother, come quickly to our aid.

निशिदिन ध्यान तुम्हारो ध्याता। देह भक्ति वर हम को माता॥ यह चालीसा जो नित गावे। सो भवसागर से तर जावे॥

Nishidin dhyaan tumhaaro dhyaata, Deh bhakti var ham ko Maata. Yah chaaleesa jo nit gaave, So bhavsaagar se tar jaave.

We meditate on you night and day; Mother, grant us the boon of devotion. Whoever sings this Chalisa daily crosses the ocean of worldly life.

सन्तोषी माँ के सदा, बन्दहुँ पग निश वास। पूर्ण मनोरथ हों सकल, मात हरौ भव त्रास॥

Santoshi Maa ke sada, bandahun pag nish vaas, Poorn manorath hon sakal, Maat harau bhav traas.

Night and day I bow at the feet of Mother Santoshi; may all my wishes be fulfilled. Mother, take away the fear of worldly life.
