Bani shishu rudan jabahin tum thaana, Lakhi mukh sukh nahin Gauri samaana. Sakal magan sukhmangal gaavahin, Nabh te suran suman varshaavahin.
When, as a baby, you began to cry, Gauri saw your face and her joy knew no bounds. Everyone, lost in delight, sang songs of celebration, and the gods showered flowers from the sky.

Shiva and Uma gave away gifts generously, and gods and sages came to see the child. Seeing the joyful celebration, King Shani too came to see him.

Nij avagun guni Shani man maahin, Baalak dekhan chaahat naahin. Girija kachhu man bhed badhaayo, Utsav mor na Shani tuhi bhaayo.
Knowing in his heart the effect of his own gaze, Shani did not want to look at the child. Girija felt hurt and said: Shani, does my celebration not please you?

Padtahin Shani drig kon prakaasha, Baalak sir udi gayo akaasha. Girija girin vikal hvai dharni, So dukh dasha gayo nahin varni.

He placed it on the child's body, and Shankar breathed life into him with a mantra. Then Shambhu named him Ganesha and blessed him to be worshipped first and to be a treasury of wisdom.

Buddhi pareeksha jab Shiv keenha, Prithvi kar pradakshina leenha. Chale Shadaanan bharami bhulaai, Rache baith tum buddhi upaai.
When Shiva tested their wisdom with a race around the earth, six-faced Kartikeya set off and lost his way, while you sat down and devised a clever plan.
Dhani Ganesh kahi Shiv hiy harshyo, Nabh te suran suman bahu barsyo.
You touched the feet of your mother and father and walked around them seven times. Blessed is Ganesha! said Shiva, his heart full of joy, and the gods showered flowers from the sky.

Tumhari mahima buddhi badaai, Shesh sahas mukh sake na gaai. Main matiheen maleen dukhaari, Karahun kaun vidhi vinay tumhaari.
Your glory and wisdom are so great that even thousand-mouthed Shesha cannot sing them. I am without understanding, impure and sorrowful: how can I pray to you?
