Baba Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar
बाबा बैद्यनाथ धाम, देवघर
📍 Deoghar, Jharkhand
Baba Baidyanath Dham is revered as both a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peetha. Every Shravan, lakhs of kanwariyas walk barefoot from the Ganga to offer its water here.
ज्योतिर्लिंग और शक्तिपीठ — जहाँ श्रावण में लाखों कांवड़िये गंगाजल लेकर पैदल पहुँचते हैं।
इतिहास History
The main shrine of Baba Baidyanath is surrounded by twenty-one other temples. Sacred red threads (gathbandhan) tie the spire of Parvati's temple to Shiva's.
Parli Vaijnath in Maharashtra is also venerated by many as this Jyotirlinga. Both are visited with deep devotion.
कथा The legend
Ravana worshipped Shiva and was allowed to carry a linga to Lanka, on the condition that it never touched the ground on the way. The devas made him stop, and he handed the linga to a cowherd, said to be Vishnu in disguise, who set it down at Deoghar, where it stayed. Because Shiva healed Ravana here, he is called Vaidyanath, the divine physician.
