Banke Bihari Temple, Vrindavan

श्री बांके बिहारी मंदिर, वृंदावन

📍 Vrindavan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh

In the lanes of Vrindavan, Banke Bihari is Krishna in his tribhanga pose, bent in three places. He is so captivating that a curtain is drawn every few minutes, lest a devotee's gaze hold him too long.

वृंदावन की गलियों में त्रिभंगी बांके बिहारी — इतने मनमोहक कि हर कुछ क्षण में पर्दा डाला जाता है।

इतिहास History

The murti was revealed at Nidhivan by Swami Haridas, the 16th-century saint and musician, who by tradition was the guru of Tansen. The present temple was built in 1864 by his Goswami descendants.

कथा The legend

Moved by Swami Haridas's singing, Radha and Krishna appeared before him in Nidhivan. At his prayer they merged into one dark, enchanting form: Banke Bihari.
