About the Dhanvantari Mantra for Health

Dhanvantari, a form of Vishnu, rose from the churning of the ocean holding the pot of amrita, and is honoured as the father of Ayurveda. Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali, is Dhanvantari Trayodashi, his appearance day, and India marks it as National Ayurveda Day. Families pray to him for health before they pray to Lakshmi for wealth: health is the first wealth.
