Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga, Srisailam
मल्लिकार्जुन ज्योतिर्लिंग, श्रीशैलम
📍 Srisailam, Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh
On the forested Nallamala hills above the Krishna river, Srisailam is both a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peetha. It is a rare place where Shiva and Shakti are worshipped side by side.
नल्लमला पर्वत पर कृष्णा नदी के ऊपर — जहाँ ज्योतिर्लिंग और शक्तिपीठ दोनों एक साथ विराजते हैं।
इतिहास History
Srisailam is praised in the Mahabharata and the Puranas as a sacred mountain. Over many centuries kings endowed the shrine; the Kakatiya and Vijayanagara rulers added its great walls, gopurams and mandapas, and Krishnadevaraya is remembered among its patrons.
The northern gopuram is associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who visited Srisailam in the 17th century. The temple of Bhramaramba Devi, one of the Shakti Peethas, stands in the same complex.
कथा The legend
Ganesha won the race around the world simply by circling his parents, so Kartikeya left Kailash hurt and settled on the Krauncha hill. Shiva and Parvati followed to be near their son, and they stayed at Srisailam as Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba.
