About the Shri Rudrashtakam with Meaning
The Rudrashtakam comes from the Uttar Kand of the Ramcharitmanas, where a brahmin sings it to calm Shiva's anger at his proud disciple, Kakbhushundi in an earlier life. In flowing bhujangaprayata verses it praises Shiva as formless and beyond the three gunas, yet tender and compassionate, white as the snowy mountain, with the Ganga in his hair and the crescent on his brow. The last verse is a cry of pure surrender: I know no yoga, no jap, no worship; I only bow to you.
