Thumak chalat Ramchandra, baajat painjaniyaan.

Little Ramachandra toddles along, his anklets tinkling.

Kilaki kilaki uthat dhaay, girat bhoomi latpataay, Dhaay maat god let, Dashrath ki raniyaan.

Squealing with delight he gets up and runs, then wobbles and falls to the ground; the mothers, Dasharatha's queens, run to pick him up in their laps.

Anchal raj ang jhaari, vividh bhaanti son dulaari, Tan man dhan vaari vaari, kahat mridu bachaniyaan.

With the ends of their saris they brush the dust off his body and pamper him in every way, offering body, mind and wealth for him, and speaking sweet words.

Bidrum se arun adhar, bolat mukh madhur madhur, Subhag naasika mein chaaru, latkat latkaniyaan.

His lips are red as coral and he babbles sweetly; a pretty pendant dangles from his lovely nose.

Tulsidas ati aanand, dekh ke mukhaarvind, Raghuvar chhabi ke samaan, Raghuvar chhabi baniyaan.

Tulsidas is overjoyed seeing his lotus face: the only thing that compares with Raghuvar's beauty is Raghuvar's beauty itself.

About the Thumak Chalat Ramchandra Bajat Paijaniya

From Tulsidas's Gitavali, this bhajan watches baby Ram learning to walk in the palace of Ayodhya: his little anklets tinkle, he gets up laughing, stumbles and falls, and the queens of Dasharatha run to pick him up, brush off the dust and shower him with love. It is sung at Ram Navami celebrations and as a lullaby.
