इतिहास History
Tradition says the first temple was raised by Vajranabha, Krishna's great-grandson, over Krishna's palace. The present five-storey temple stands on 72 pillars and dates largely from the 15th–16th centuries.
Adi Shankaracharya established the Dwarka Sharada Peeth here, one of his four mathas.
कथा The legend
Krishna left Mathura and built the golden city of Dwarka by the sea for the Yadavas. After his departure the ocean swallowed the city, a memory honoured at Bet Dwarka and in the waters offshore.
