इतिहास History

The Alvars praise the shrine as one of the 108 Divya Desams. Much of the present structure is owed to Maharaja Marthanda Varma of Travancore, who in 1750 dedicated his kingdom to the deity and ruled as Padmanabha Dasa, servant of the Lord.

When some of the temple's vaults were opened in 2011, the treasure found was among the largest ever recorded.

कथा The legend

The great reclining murti is made of thousands of shaligram stones bound with a special herbal plaster. Devotees see the face, the navel with Brahma on a lotus, and the feet through three separate doors.
